How SACCOs Can Use SMS for Member Notifications

By Zoril SMS team · Published · Updated

Members trust their SACCO with money and personal details. Good SMS communication builds that trust — careless messaging erodes it.

Useful notifications

Keep messages factual and identify the SACCO in each one.

  • General meeting notices
  • Monthly contribution reminders
  • Loan repayment due dates
  • Confirmation that a payment was recorded

Protect financial information

Restrict who can view balances. Send individual figures only to the member concerned, never in a group message, and avoid including full account numbers.

Record consent

Record the message purpose, the applicable lawful basis and any consent evidence, for example the relevant membership-form wording and date. Marketing requires appropriate consent and an unsubscribe option; necessary account notices must not be used to disguise promotions. Assess Uganda's Data Protection and Privacy Act 2019, applicable regulations and the recipient country's rules with qualified advice when needed.
