SMS Marketing Best Practices for Small Businesses
By Zoril SMS team · Published · Updated
SMS marketing works because it is personal. That is also why it backfires when it feels like spam.
Only message people who agreed
Ask customers at checkout or by a keyword whether they want offers by SMS, and honour every STOP reply immediately.
Make every message worth reading
- Say who you are first
- One clear offer per message
- A deadline or reason to act
- A way to opt out
Mind the timing and frequency
A few well-timed messages a month usually beat daily blasts. Avoid late evenings and early mornings.
Measure and adjust
Use Analytics to compare recorded delivery, replies and tracked clicks, keeping measured figures separate from cost estimates. A click is not proof of a purchase; conversions, payment completion and appointment attendance are not linked to messages by the current reporting. Where A/B results are available, compare sample sizes and do not treat small differences as a reliable winner.
